IBM Cloud Computing Session at Cloud Expo to Map Telecom Future

Upcoming session at Cloud Expo Silicon Valley

"We're making an important shift in the way we do business by providing clients powerful cloud computing services as well as cost savings," declared Chen Xiao Qin, vice director of marketing at Shanghai Telecom, as it was announced earlier in October that Shanghai Telecom was adopting IBM's new cloud services platform, a cloud service management solution called the IBM Cloud Service Provider Platform.

IBM describes the Cloud Service Provider Platform as "a comprehensive set of hardware, software and services to help providers rapidly deliver cloud computing on their own."

The company says that it includes the most advanced, carrier-grade technology with all the essential security and service management capabilities to ensure reliability essential to providers' own customers.

Shanghai Telecom is piloting IBM's new platform to extend computing and telecommunications into the enterprise market to capture the growing business opportunity to provide infrastructure to businesses and multinational corporations operating in China. But it is not alone. Orange, a major global telecommunications company, is using the IBM Cloud Service Provider Platform in a pilot project to create new infrastructure-as-a-service offerings for their customers.

Furthermore, companies such as Broadsoft, Corent Technology, deCarta, Jamcracker, Juniper Networks, NetApp, Openet, RightScale and Wavemaker are supporting the platform today.

IBM's work helping leading edge clients adopt cloud computing to transform the way they deliver services will be at the heart of a breakout session to be given November 1 on the opening day of the upcoming Cloud Expo Silicon Valley (1-4 November 2010 | Santa Clara Convention Center) by two Senior Managers from IBM Cloud Labs, Anil Somani and Jose Vargas.

In this session, attendees will get a view into clients in different industries as well as see cutting edge demonstrations. "As the adoption of cloud computing continues to grow, many companies are looking at how they can create services more quickly and efficiently," say Somani and Vargas.
